Attuning the frequency of the heart

Kirtan is call-and-response chanting of devotional mantras, and it may be the easiest path into meditation. Through the simple repetition of ancient sound, the walls we carry begin to soften, and we're returned to the tender heart centre within - no mental effort required, just a willingness to let the heart be revealed.

You can think of it as attuning the frequency of the heart, where perfection truly stands in the way. It doesn't matter how you sound, whether you know the words, or whether you can carry a tune - showing up with an open heart is the whole practice. This is chanting as a highway rather than a mountain path: a direct, unpretentious route to something universal we all already carry inside us.

COMMUNITY GATHERINGS FOR ALL

Sangha means community, and it's something we hold close at SOMA. Almost every month, we open our doors for an evening built around exactly that - gathering, singing, and sharing bakes together.

There's chanting at the heart of it, but just as much of the evening lives in the space around the singing: the chai passed hand to hand, the bakes someone brought because they wanted to, the easy conversation with people you may or may not know yet.

Kids are always welcome, and you don't need any experience or belief system to walk through the door - just a willingness to sit in a circle and be part of something for an evening. It's free for Unlimited members, and class pack credits are welcome too.

Soulful Vinyasa

Expect the dynamic, soulful flow where we build up to a peak pose in a fun, non-intimidating, progressive way, offering many variations for all levels of experience. Throughout the class, the teacher weaves storytelling and Yoga philosophy for inspired living. By the end of the class, we close with breathing techniques for relieving stress, chanting mantras, and reposing in longer meditation.

Flow + Meditation

A blend of dynamic vinyasa flow, mindfulness, and healing Reiki. We begin with an extended guided meditation before awakening into movement as we visit the strengthening static holding of poses with presence. We then return to stillness by transitioning into śavāsana where you are guided into deep rest with Reiki, before ending the practice with chanting. All levels welcome with modifications offered for both beginners and experienced yoga practitioners.
