Treasure Basket & Baby Music | Montessori for Babies

Treasure basket montessori

Join us for a Treasure Basket & Baby Music - a gentle, sensory-rich class for babies from sitting to walking, led by Georgina, an award-winning early years Montessori educator with decades of experience supporting children and parents.

What is a Treasure Basket?

The Treasure Basket is a beautiful Montessori-inspired approach that offers babies a collection of natural, everyday objects to explore through their senses. Rather than plastic toys, each basket is thoughtfully filled with real materials - smooth wooden spoons, textured fabrics, metal objects that make gentle sounds, woven baskets, natural sponges, and other treasures that invite touch, taste, smell, and discovery. This simple yet profound concept honors babies as capable explorers, allowing them to choose what interests them and investigate at their own pace.

Why is it so important?

During those precious early months, babies learn about their world primarily through sensory exploration. The Treasure Basket supports this natural development by offering rich, varied experiences that help build neural pathways, enhance concentration, and develop fine motor skills. Unlike manufactured toys, these authentic materials provide genuine sensory feedback - the coolness of metal, the grain of wood, the softness of fabric - giving babies real information about the world around them. This approach also fosters independence, decision-making, and sustained attention as babies become absorbed in their chosen explorations.

Following the babies' natural curiosity, our class blends the magic of The Treasure Basket with live singing, guitar, and calming aromatherapy. Each baby explores their own treasure basket filled with textures, scents, sounds, and colours, encouraging sensory discovery and movement at their own pace. As the session unfolds, we'll share baskets of props and instruments so each child can create their own musical treasure basket while we sing together. Parents and carers sit closely behind their little ones to offer comfort and encouragement, with space for moments of connection, feeding, and questions. No previous experience is needed — simply come as you are and enjoy a calm, creative time with your baby in a warm and welcoming environment.
